The strategic plan goals of the Special Collections and University Archives unit represent the way we carry out our mission, vision, and values. They also reflect the overarching goals of Atkins Library. Our current strategic plan goals are in place for 2018-2021, and are reassessed periodically.
Strategic Plan Goals: 2018-2021
Goal 1: Support and enhance teaching and learning at UNC Charlotte.
Students and faculty in departments across the University will recognize that the Special Collections and University Archives instruction program and collections provide essential learning experiences that further curricular goals.
Goal 2: Optimize the researcher’s experience.
Special Collections and University Archives will continuously take proactive measures to facilitate the discovery, access, and use of holdings and services.
Goal 3: Build a noteworthy collection for the 21st century and assist in community documentation initiatives.
Special Collections and University Archives will be the premiere repository for resources that support the study of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region. Additionally, Special Collections and University Archives will work with underrepresented community groups in the region to assist with the preservation of their histories.
Goal 4: Manage our collections responsibly.
Special Collections and University Archives will develop and implement efficient and effective practices to ensure that all materials are sufficiently preserved, described, and made discoverable and available in a timely way.
Goal 5: Promote holdings and services and engage with communities in the library, on campus, and in Charlotte.
Special Collections and University Archives will work with others to raise awareness of its services and collections.
Goal 6: Promote unit success.
Special Collections and University Archives will foster and embrace growth, change, and sharing of knowledge to improve transparency, collaboration, and unit cohesion.
