Atkins Library will be closed from Sunday, Dec. 14, through Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, to allow for major electrical upgrades that will modernize the building’s systems.
Please review the following schedule for library services and resources, including important deadlines for pickups, requests, and the return of materials, equipment, and laptops.
Virtual Support via Chat and Email
Available:
- Monday, Dec. 14 – Friday, Dec. 19, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Monday, Dec. 22 – Tuesday, Dec. 23, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Friday, Jan. 2, and Monday, Jan. 5 – Tuesday, Jan. 6, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Interlibrary Loan
- Physical items can be picked up through Saturday, Dec. 13. Processing of physical items will resume when the library reopens on Jan. 7.
- Electronic items can be delivered through Dec. 22. Processing will resume Jan. 2 after winter break.
- All interlibrary loan services will be paused from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1 during the campus winter break.
Item Retrieval
- Item retrieval for books at Atkins will be paused from Dec. 13 through Jan. 6.
- The last day to pick up already retrieved items is Dec. 13.
Checked-Out Materials
- Library laptops are due by Friday, Dec. 12.
- Materials due on days the library is closed will have their due dates extended to Monday, Jan. 12.
- Book drops are available for returns while the library is closed.
Special Collections
- Reference services will be available via email, except during the holiday closure (Dec. 23 – Jan. 1).
- No research appointments will be available during the closure.
Area 49
- Virtual support is available via email at atkinsarea49@charlotte.edu or by virtual appointment.
- The last day to submit a print request is Sunday, Dec. 8.
- Area 49 technology is due by Dec. 12.
