
Jill Sexton joined J. Murrey Atkins Library as dean in March 2025. Previously, she was at North Carolina State University Libraries, where she was the associate director for digital and organizational strategy. Sexton’s two-decade career in library services includes research service development, strategic planning, technology strategy, and major facility projects. She also developed productive partnerships across university units and worked on interdisciplinary teams that successfully launched innovative university-level services that addressed the institution's evolving needs.
At NC State University, Sexton played a pivotal role in leading a multimillion-dollar esports initiative, collaborating on the university’s information technology governance structure and participating in various strategic projects. She also co-founded the Women in Tech resource employee group, dedicated to advancing women in information technology through advocacy, mentoring, networking and staff development programs.
Sexton earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Rowan College of New Jersey and a Master of Science in Information Science from UNC-Chapel Hill.
