Dr. Dimitris Papanikolaou joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture at UNC Charlotte this fall. His appointment is held jointly with the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI). Dimitris holds a Doctor of Design (D.Des.) from Harvard, an M.S. in Media Arts and Sciences from the Media Lab at MIT, an M.S. in Design and Computation from the School of Architecture at MIT, and a Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens.
Dimitris has previously held teaching and research appointments at Harvard, NYU and MIT. Since 2007 he has been conducting research in the areas of urban mobility, data visualization, human computer interaction, and digital media and fabrication. "It's all about connecting people," says Prof. Papanikolaou. Dimitris is currently teaching a transdisciplinary seminar on smart cities and co-teaching an advanced graduate architectural design studio.
