Come hear about the new CATS Lynx Transit Station on campus!
For twenty years, Mikyoung Kim has crafted an exceptional body of work, spanning a wide range of landscape typologies in the United States, East Asia and the Middle East. Her diverse background in design and sculpture has shaped her body of work, blurring the boundaries between landscape architecture and environmental art. Her firm has developed a reputation for culturally significant design work that serves to enliven the public realm, addressing pressing environmental issues while celebrating the beauty of our collective human experience through the use of contemporary materials and technologies.
At UNC Charlotte's new transit station, a series of enveloping sculptural stainless steel shadow screens transforms into a dynamic shadow play environment. Textured and perforated metal mesh undulates and wraps leading students and visitors to a central space that is defined by an inner core of light and shadow. The sculpture folds and bends to encourage seating and engagement.
