This panel discussion explores the far-reaching effects of corporate media ownership on the information we consume. Using case studies like the U.S. TikTok ban and recent Meta fact-checking and content inclusion changes, the panelists will examine issues of censorship, mis/disinformation, and media literacy in today’s evolving information landscape. The panel will include Assistant Professor in Philosophy and Data Science Damien P. Williams, Assistant Professor in Writing, Rhetoric & Digital Studies Wilfredo Flores, and Niner Times Multimedia Managing Editor Sunnya Hadavi. Share reflections and exchange ideas from your life, work, and research while connecting with others. Attendees can also learn more about the Critical Media Literacy Collaborative and opportunities to get involved. Coffee and tea will be provided. Open to all students, faculty, and staff.
