Celebrate Open Access Week with Atkins Library this October 25-31, 2021. Now entering its tenth year, Open Access Week is a global event that explores how open scholarship benefits the academic and research community.

To celebrate, we’re highlighting resources we have to help the UNC Charlotte community publish open access:

Open Access White Paper, which defines open access publishing, describes ways the university supports open access publishing, and outlines a framework for future progress in this arena.

Open Access Publishing Statement, which describes Atkins Library’s support of open access scholarship.

Publishing deals and discounts, in which Atkins Library has negotiated discounts for article processing fees that enable you to publish open access with publishers like SAGE Publishing and Cambridge University Press.

Guide to finding the best places to publish your research article, including guidance on how to retain author rights so that you can maximize your article’s impact.

Guide to Niner Commons, UNC Charlotte’s institutional repository that helps UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, students, and researchers increase access to their work and preserve it in the long-term. 

OER Workshop: Licensing and Funding for Open Access Publishing webinar, where Atkins librarians discuss using and creating openly licensed resources in publishing and teaching, interpreting and negotiating author agreements to make publications as open as possible, and using grants to fund the costs associated with publishing openly.
