Emerald Publishing recently discontinued the journal package to which Atkins Library subscribed. To continue access to the titles would require the library to subscribe to the publisher’s larger title package at a seven-fold increase in price. The library investigated other options through Emerald: ordering single titles for the most-used journals at Emerald’s retail prices is cost prohibitive at up to $22,000 per title, and even the top ten used titles are sixteen times the amount of the package last year. This has left Atkins unable to subscribe to any Emerald journals, and unless more reasonable options are offered the library will no longer be able to provide access to their current content.
Atkins will retain access to journal issues purchased in the past and faculty and staff are encouraged to use the library’s Interlibrary Loan services to access newly published articles. Please contact your subject librarian if you have questions.
