UNC Charlotte’s J. Murrey Atkins Library announces the launch of Liberry Lager, a limited release lager brewed by Triple C Brewing, in a collaboration between the research library and the Southend brewer.

The idea for library-themed beer came out of meetings between Atkins’ fundraising staff and Justin Engel, a 2012 graduate of UNC Charlotte (BFA photography/art history minor), who began working at Triple C Brewing in 2013 as its graphic designer.  The library was researching unique ideas to get its name out in the community and offer ways for alumni to support their university’s library. In consultation with the owner and brewmaster, the idea for “Liberry” Lager was developed and Engel started developing the design for the can and promotional materials. The approved design features an architectural illustration of the J. Murrey Atkins Library building on a background of UNC Charlotte green.

“As an alumnus, working with J. Murrey Atkins Library at UNC Charlotte was the perfect chance to stake a claim in school history and give back. After years of studying there, it was an honor to be able to collaborate with the great folks at the library,” said Engel. “Keeping it local is what we are about at Triple C Brewing Company and what’s more local than a Charlotte native, alumni of UNC Charlotte, now working for a Charlotte brewery!”

Triple C Brewing describes Liberry Lager as a “clean, single malt American lager. Fermented cold with aromas of tropical kiwi and citrus lime. Crisp, light, and easy to drink for all 49ers events.” The 4.5% ABV lager is available for a limited time at Triple C Brewing Company on tap and in 16-ounce carryout 4-packs.

“We are excited to partner with Triple C to bring a unique lager to our friends and supporters in Charlotte,” said Anne Cooper Moore, Dean, J. Murrey Atkins Library, UNC Charlotte. “This partnership also offers an opportunity for Atkins to create collections and programs related to the history of the craft beer industry in Charlotte.”

Atkins Library receives 10 percent of every pint of Liberry Lager sold at Triple C Brewery, located at 2900 Griffith Street in Charlotte.
