Accessibility

Our commitment

Special Collections and University Archives is committed to providing all patrons with access to our collections and services. If you require special accommodations to access rare books or archival collections, contact us. Instructors who require an accessible location in Atkins Library to offer instruction with our materials should make this request when scheduling an instruction appointment, and we will make accommodations.

Accessing materials

Access to rare books and archives is generally offered in the Mary and Harry L. Dalton Rare Book and Manuscript Reading Room, located on the 10th floor of Atkins Library. For those library patrons who wish to use these rare and unique materials, and who cannot access the 10th floor or who need to make use of assistive technologies, we will be happy to provide accommodations. We will provide materials, technology, and research help in an accessible room on the main floor of the library or an alternative accessible location in the library.

Due to limited staff and room availability, we may not be able to accommodate immediate requests for access to materials in a different location than the Dalton Reading Room. Please schedule an appointment by contacting us at least 24 hours in advance.

All Special Collections and University Archives patrons will be informed of and asked to follow Dalton Reading Room policies, which include completing a patron registration form.

Assistive Technologies

The following are available on the first floor of the library:

  • JAWS
  • MAGic
  • CCTV video magnifiers
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking

To use assistive technologies with Special Collections and University Archives materials, please contact us to schedule an appointment 24 hours in advance.
